One of the better hitters in baseball, Wilson Betemit has bounced around quite a bit in recent years and while he will never win your heart with his glove, he is a productive bat, specifically against right-handers.
Acquired by the Tigers midway through last season, Betemit offered them some pop with a high average. He has since been signed by the Baltimore Orioles on a two-year deal. A platoon situation is likely to follow for Betemit, which makes perfect sense. After all, he hit .303 with a .365 OBP and a stellar .500 slugging percentage against right-handers last season while struggling with just a .236 average against southpaws.
Betemit can contribute as a designated hitter or pinch hitter, while filling in on occasion at the corner infield positions. Though many fantasy managers may have some frustration believing Betemit never lived up to the lofty expectations as a top prospect with the Braves several years ago, you should take what you can get and that is a very good option against right-handed pitching.
